Challenge Poverty week

Selfcare and Financial wellbeing

There are so many dimensions to poverty, while we often think of money and the lack of resources to meet our basic needs, it is also worth thinking about poverty of hope, of happiness, of life satisfaction also the impact worrying about money can have on our health, wellbeing and attitudes to selfcare. We created a financial wellbeing booklet in times of challenge in 2022, which we have shared the link to. It is our intention to update this resource. Listening to communities and the voices of lived experience has always been core to our way of working, so this week we are involved in two learning exchanges, one in Drumchapel thanks to support from the G15 Thriving Places Food Pantry members and another in Lochgilphead thanks to the Snowdrop Centre and its partners and members.

Our aim is to learn from each other, what are the essentials of life and how do we bring them into being even when funds are tight, and how do we create more hope and happiness against the odds. What we learn will inform the development of a new resource. The areas covered in the existing resource include

Define the problem
Balancing the books
Balance
Self-care tip ideas for self-care
Gambling and other addiction-related debts

Ideas which may help save money
Ideas to help save money/Fuel
Ideas to help save money/food
Ideas to help save money/free fun
Ideas to help save money/pets
Useful contacts and websites

It matters we find ways to help people navigate the storms of financial challenges, it also matters we find ways to help find joy today while planning for a better tomorrow.

If you have any ideas or resources, you want to share please feel free to email me.
