Glasgow Communities Fund – GCVS Statement

Glasgow City Council have published their recommendations for what should be funded under the city-wide strand of the new Glasgow Communities Fund. We expect similar proposals for the three sectors today or tomorrow.

This has been a difficult and controversial process for all concerned, but GCVS has tried to maintain a consistent and balanced position. We recognise that the ongoing funding of organisations through IGF without any opportunity for new organisations to apply or to reconsider how the spend is used is not a sustainable position.

We also know and have said that some of the services currently funded are so important, they are not appropriate for a discretionary grants scheme.

We are pleased that this point has been recognised in the proposal paper as part of the learning for the future, but there are some individual recommendations within the current proposals that need careful consideration. It is important that Councillors of all parties work together to find solutions in the best interest of Glasgow’s citizens.

There will be projects that are disappointed at the end of this process. Please remember that GCVS can offer help to organisations on areas such as funding, structures and HR.  For help contact cld@gcvs.org.uk.
