Winter Events

With the festive holidays, approaching many organisations may be planning to hold events over the period. Here are some things to consider when planning for your event; this is not an exhaustive list but some reminders of often overlooked areas:

Adverse Weather

This may seem obvious, but it should be considered when planning any event. How will weather affect any planned operations, equipment, travel etc. Do you have an outdoor event planned, what are your plans should there be snow, wind, excessive rain? When you are Risk Assessing your event and creating your method statement remember to include how any adverse weather could affect your plans and what controls you have put in place.

Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme (ADIPS) the national scheme for inspection and certification of fairground rides and amusement devices. ADIPS inspection is carried out by registered inspection bodies (IB’s) whose capability to perform competent and independent inspection is assessed and monitored on an ongoing basis. ADIPS certification is known as a Declaration of Operational Compliance (DOC). Look out for this; it’s your guarantee that a device has been certified as safe to operate by an independent and competent IB. If you are planning on having any inflatables or rides at your event please ensure that, they are to the correct standards and hold certification.

Food Hygiene and Safety

Your organisation, so far as is reasonably practical, will ensure the health and safety of all persons affected by your activities involving catering and the production of food for human consumption. Your organisation must ensure that any operations will be compliant with legal requirements and the associated appropriate codes of practice. You should assess the risks from your activities and operate according to the procedures that best promote health and safety at work.
