Step Up to Net Zero – Coordinator Placement

Step Up to Net Zero is a new initiative to provide Glasgow businesses, including third sector organisations, with bespoke funded support to reach their net zero ambitions and adopt circular business principles. Through Step Up to Net Zero, businesses are provided with a bespoke Action Plan which participants progress to deliver their specific net zero targets.

GCVS is participating in the Step Up to Net Zero initiative and we are now looking for a Placement Participant to help us.

Step Up to Net Zero Coordinator – GCVS – Circular Glasgow

Your role as a placement participant will be to support GCVS in implementing an Action Plan, progressing activity that supports the organisation to adopt more circular principles, improve current sustainability practices and reduce their carbon footprint.

The successful participant will be upskilled/reskilled on the net-zero and circular economy agenda throughout their placement and will gain real industry insights and experience. They will also be provided with external mentoring support and industry-specific training opportunities during their placement. At the end of the funded placement, GCVS may choose to retain the participant as an employee. Alternatively, Step Up to Net Zero would support the participant in their path to further employment.

Glasgow’s business community has a significant role to play in supporting the city’s ambitions to become net zero carbon by 2030, and a circular city by 2045. The Step Up to Net Zero project has been designed to address several key priorities for Glasgow City Council including supporting a just transition as well as encouraging and enabling the business community to take action towards becoming more sustainable and circular.

Duration:
16 weeks

Hours per week:
25 hours per week

Pay:
£14.50 per hour (full-time equivalent of a £27,500 salary)

Placement start date:
January 2023

Eligibility:
The programme is open to people of any age however, due to the nature of the work involved, we recommend that you are 21+ and have some experience of the work environment.

    • You must have a Glasgow City Council postcode.
    • You must not currently be in full time education.
    • You must be able to commit to the specified hours per week for the placement.

Key responsibilities

The recommendations set out in each business’s Action Plan are specific to the individual organisation, and therefore your responsibilities will vary according to the business you are placed with. Examples of responsibilities could include:

• Integrating circular knowledge into the support that GCVS offer to external companies.
• Undertaking an audit of existing suppliers to verify GCVS’s understanding of their circular claims.
• Gathering information from net zero projects which the GCVS team have assisted with and marketing them externally. This will showcase the good practises which GCVS support and help to educated external organisations.
• Identifying areas of the building which can be altered to increase the efficiency and reduce consumption of heat and power.
• Eliminating all single use items from GCVS to reduce waste and increase sustainability.
• Reducing the overall volume of monthly waste by 10% whilst increasing recycling rates.
