Digital Skills and Inclusion

Digital inclusion is the belief that everyone should have safe, equitable and meaningful access to digital technologies and the opportunities they offer. Having access to digital tools and the skills to use them can be transformative – and we want to be part of a society where no one is left behind.

At GCVS we are involved in a broad range of digital inclusion projects across Glasgow. That includes working directly with individuals, collaborating with partners and helping coordinate the sector to deliver collective impact.

We deliver and support:

  • Direct digital skills training – running courses such as:
    • Getting Started – helping participants set up a laptop or tablet, choose a browser, install email and antivirus software;
    • Online Safety – understanding online risks, using online banking/email/social media safely;
    • Office Package Basics – learn the basics of Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
    • Media Literacy – how to spot fake news, set privacy settings, avoid scams and identify safe websites;
    • Collaboration at Work – using technology such as Outlook, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint for effective remote working.
  • Partnership and community delivery – we work in partnership with voluntary organisations, community groups, workplaces, and support services to tailor and deliver on-site training for staff, volunteers, or client groups.

Hosting the Digital Inclusion Alliance

We’re pleased to announce that GCVS has been chosen to host the Digital Inclusion Alliance (DIA) – established to strengthen collaboration across Scotland’s public, third and private sectors and promote a strategic, joined-up approach to tackling digital exclusion.

Read news here about the Digital Inclusion Alliance.

As host organisation we will:

  • Provide a central point of contact and coordination for the DIA, helping to bring together organisations working on digital inclusion, amplify the voices of communities and practitioners, and ensure national conversations reflect grassroots insight.
  • Facilitate shared resources, aligned approaches and peer learning across the sector – supporting partners to build capacity and deliver impact at scale.
  • Work with our networks and infrastructure to support broader collaboration across Scotland.

Why this matters

Digital exclusion is closely linked with poverty and disadvantage. If you cannot access the internet, digital tools or the skills to use them, you are less likely to take up employment, training or support services, or to participate fully in society. Our work aims to ensure that people and organisations have the means, confidence and support to engage digitally. This role with the DIA further strengthens our commitment to a more inclusive digital Scotland.

Get involved

  • Are you an organisation interested in hosting a training course for your staff, volunteers or service users?
  • Are you part of a community group or voluntary sector organisation wanting to partner on a digital inclusion project?
  • Are you keen to engage in the wider collaboration work of the DIA – sharing learning, shaping resources, influencing policy?

Get in touch with our team via training@gcvs.org.uk or call 0141 332 2444 to help us direct your enquiry. We’d love to talk about how we can work together.
