Renewable Energy for Community Groups

Free

8 August 2024 - 10:30

Albany Centre, 44 Ashley Street Glasgow G3 6DS

Workshop by Community Energy Scotland

This event is hosted by Glasgow Climate Action Hub and is targeted at voluntary or community organisations based or delivering in Glasgow.

We invite you to join a workshop led by Community Energy Scotland (CES).

The purpose of this workshop is to help groups understand the opportunities (and challenges) involved in developing and implementing energy projects in Scotland today. The UK energy system is in a period of transition, and over the next few years we will move to a very different way of managing energy in order to reduce carbon emissions, and control energy costs.

We believe local groups are in a unique position to take advantage of these changes to co-ordinate and develop energy projects which can bring real benefits to their communities. We’ll look at what community energy is and how it has changed over the years. We’ll highlight some examples of real community energy projects from across Scotland to show what is possible both now and in the future.

The workshop will encourage discussion between participants and provide a broad overview of some of the key areas where communities can make a difference, such as renewable energy generation, low carbon transport, and energy efficiency. This will also be an opportunity to network and share experiences with other community organisations on a similar journey or with similar ambitions.

The event includes a light lunch at 12:30pm.

Key Discussion Topics

· What is Community Energy and how has it changed over the years?

· Our energy system and how it is changing

· The barriers to developing community energy projects

· The opportunities for community energy projects.

Community Energy Scotland is a member-led, independent organisation providing practical & technical support for community project development. They work in partnership with community groups and others who share their values, to build understanding and capacity to create more democratic, sustainable and low carbon solutions.
