Over £2m investment to strengthen support for families across Glasgow City Region
21st August 2026
Families across the region are set to benefit from a major new investment in community-based support, following the award of over £2 million from the Scottish Government’s Whole Family Support Third Sector Delivery Fund.
Working together to provide support for families
The funding will support a partnership of 40 locally-based third sector organisations across the Glasgow City Region, with 32 delivery partners. GCVS worked with the TSIs in seven other local authority areas to develop the partnership, which has secured over £2m in Scottish Government investment through the Whole Family Support Third Sector Delivery Fund. The programme will strengthen local services for children, young people and families while investing in the organisations that communities rely on every day.
Trusted local organisations at the heart of communities
The partnership brings together organisations with deep roots in their communities, trusted relationships with local families and a strong understanding of the challenges people face. Working together, partners will deliver support tailored to local needs while benefiting from shared learning, collaboration, and specialist expertise across the region.
Every day, third sector organisations support families facing a range of challenges, from financial pressures and isolation to issues affecting wellbeing, confidence and opportunities. Often, these organisations are the first place people turn to for help because they are local, trusted and accessible.
This community-based approach supports the wider ambition of whole family support by helping families access the right support as early and simply as possible, with organisations working together around local needs.
Investing in the third sector workforce
Alongside direct support for families, the programme includes dedicated funding for organisational and workforce development. This will help strengthen the sustainability, resilience and long-term capacity of participating organisations through training, skills development and support for staff and volunteers.
There will also be opportunities for shared learning and collaboration across the region.
Announcing the new funding, Social Justice Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville said:
“We have made great strides in our ambitious mission to eradicate child poverty. Within the powers we have, we have boosted incomes while delivering a transformational cost of living support package.
“But we know that more needs to be done, which is why we are driving whole family support. This is about making sure that people can access the help they need easily, as simply as possible, and as quickly as possible.
“To remove barriers, we need to empower local charities and local people and bring them together with other services so that there are clear and easy ways to access the right support, in the right place and at the right time.
For GCVS, the funding is an important recognition of the role that community organisations play in helping families thrive, and of the contribution the third sector can make to earlier, preventative whole family support.
Ian Bruce, Chief Officer at Glasgow CVS adds:
“This investment recognises the vital role that community organisations play in supporting children, young people and families. By bringing together these organisations from across Greater Glasgow, we have an opportunity to strengthen local provision and create shared solutions to challenges affecting families across the region.
“The programme is not only about delivering support today. It is also about investing in the skills, capacity and long-term sustainability of the organisations that communities rely on.”
