Introducing our New Website!

Learn how our new website is improving access to valuable support and explore new features and tools.

At GCVS, we want our services to be easy to find, understand and accessible to everyone we’re here to support. Ensuring our website is up-to-date is a huge part of this. However, like many others in the third sector, we’re as guilty as anyone for not prioritising it.

That is, until last year when, with the support of our Board, we decided to take the plunge and begin building a new site. Although it may sound like a simple task that can be handed over to any capable developer, it has been quite a journey for us, but one that was very much needed!

“How can we blend useful tools and time-saving features with simple navigation?”

Over the years, the biggest challenge with our previous website, and perhaps GCVS as a brand, has been that, well, we do lots of things. And doing lots of things means it can be hard for people to find what they need from us quickly and easily. From offering support and training that’s fully funded in Glasgow to providing a range of subscription services to third-sector organisations across Scotland, we are working with a range of audiences. In addition, there are workplace qualifications to provide and policy work to share. We also facilitate a range networks, offer venue hire, run inspiring projects such as Community Connectors and much, much more; you can see why it’s taken us a while to get there!

We’re delighted to share our new site which combines simple navigation with a host of new tools and features. So, let’s find out what those are:

New Website Features

  • We want to make the Support you need easier to find, so we’ve broken down the key areas into 10 categories, such as ‘Funding and Income’, ‘Finance and Payroll’, etc. Within each section are details of what support is available and how to access it.
  • This includes information on what we offer free to eligible Glasgow organisations, as detailed on our funded support page. We’ll ask you to create a verified account for your organisation, to access the training and one-to-one advice you’re entitled to following a simple one-off approval. You’ll then be able to see orders and bookings in your dashboard.
  • Our Community section is where you’ll find Membership, latest news, Network information, a summary of What’s On. Plus, our new, improved Noticeboard!
  • GCVS Members can register for an account and will then be able to login at the top right of the screen. They can then post on the Noticeboard and access discounts and exclusive content.
  • If you’re an HR or Health & Safety Subscriber, you’ll be able to access resources once you’ve logged in, and these will be stored in your account for future. It is also easier to sign up for subscriptions now with fast online payment and invoice options.
  • Our general Resources and useful links are much easier to find, and we look forward to adding new tools here. If you have ideas on resources you would like us to provide, please let us know.
  • We’re moving away from external booking sites (such as Eventbrite) to allow us more control over our Training and Event bookings. When logged into the site, you will see the correct, often free or discounted pricing for training.

That’s not all. Keep up-to-date on the support and tools available

We’ve prepared some FAQs to help answer any queries:

Why do I have to create an account?

User Accounts on the GCVS website make it easier to access exclusive content or discounts that are available only to our Members, organisations operating in Glasgow City, and/or customers who subscribe to our HR / Health & Safety advice services.

If you’d like to access these, the lead person from your organisation should follow the relevant links below, where you can set up your organisation’s account.

  • For GCVS Membership, click here
  • For Funded Support for Glasgow City organisations, click here
  • For Health and Safety and HR Advice Subscriptions, click here

Once that account is set up and verified, you’ll gain access to the account benefits/discounts and can add other members of your organisation to join, allowing them to access content and discounts independently.

Why should I apply for funded support?

While any third-sector organisation can access our services, only organisations operating in Glasgow City can access our funded support. In the past, we checked an organisation’s eligibility every time it tried to book a training course, which was time-consuming and meant we had to keep asking for information. This new approach means we’ll check your eligibility once, and then you’ll be able to access support and training easily.

What’s the difference between applying for funded support and GCVS membership?

Funded support is available to all eligible organisations in Glasgow and includes access to lots of our training, one-to-one advice, etc. It’s worth going through this process first.

GCVS Membership offers additional benefits such as discounts on training provided by our HR/H&S advice service, the ability to post on our noticeboard, voting rights at our AGM and more. It’s also about being part of a community of organisations with shared goals and access to members-only opportunities.

How do I know if I am eligible for free/funded support?

Funded support is mainly provided to groups and organisations operating within Glasgow but there are a few restrictions. Visit our funded-support page; you will find eligibility details and a link to apply for approval, which takes you through a short process. Users fill in their organisation name and click Sign Up. They then go to the cart and proceed to checkout, where you will be asked to complete a short eligibility application.

Why does it ask for my organisation’s details? Can I include my own personal details?

The first person creating an account for an organisation ‘owns’ the account and can invite other team members to join. We recommend discussing this with your team and using your group or generic mailbox, such as an ‘info@’ email, for your organisation so that access is shared by those using that mailbox. If you are a new organisation and don’t have things like a shared mailbox yet, please change this in your account later.

Who is my approver?

When you create an account to access funded support in Glasgow, your application is sent to our sector development team at sectordev@gcvs.org.uk. They will review your application and get back to you as soon as possible with approval or to request further information on the contact details you provide.

If you are applying for GCVS membership, you will receive a confirmation email saying that we have received your application. Go to your account dashboard for an overview of your membership. Please contact membership@gcvs.org.uk if you have any questions.

How do I change my account details?

To make any changes to your account, log in using the red button at the top right of the screen. If you’re already logged in, this button changes to ‘my account’. In your account dashboard, you can edit your details; Manage Profile, Saved Address, etc.

How do I change the approver for our organisation, e.g. if they have left?

Please contact infomation@gcvs.org.uk and we’ll edit access for your organisation.

Why am I waiting for approval?

We are funded to support eligible organisations in Glasgow, as discussed here, with restrictions that mean applications need to be checked by a member of our team. It doesn’t take long, but please bear with us while we confirm your eligibility. We will aim to approve your account within 3 working days – sooner if we can.

My organisation might be listed by different names – how do I know what to use?

If you cannot check with your lead account owner, please contact infomation@gcvs.org.uk, and we’ll confirm if your organisation is already listed.

What if I work or volunteer with more than one organisation?

You will need a separate account for each organisation you work with. This allows us to store data accurately and safely, including any required payment details.

If you have any challenges booking under your other organisations, please contact information@gcvs.org.uk for support.

How do I post on the noticeboard?

Firstly, you must be a member to post on the noticeboard, so if you haven’t already, please visit our membership page to sign up or follow our email instructions for existing members. If you haven’t received this, please contact membership@gcvs.org.uk.

Once you are logged in to the site as a member, you will find our noticeboard in your Dashboard, or also under ‘Community’ on the main navigation. There is a blue button on the right to click Add Notice which takes you to a short form to complete. When you submit your notice the post will go live instantly. If you have any issues with your post once it is live, please contact us at comms.team@gcvs.org.uk for help.

Can I apply to enroll for an SVQ or qualification online?

Currently, we ask you to complete a short enquiry form and ask you to confirm the course you are interested in. We will then be in touch with any follow up questions, including payment details, with you by email.

Can I book an appointment for advice online?

A few of our team offer online bookings to advise on funding, governance and setting up a new organisation. You will find a link on the relevant pages under support services. Please note this service is only free for eligible organisations in Glasgow. You can find more information about this here: Discounts and Funded Support.
