Health and Social Care Strategy for Older People – GCVS Response to Scottish Government

The Scottish Government has been consulting on plans to create a health and care strategy for older people in Scotland. You can read more about this here:
The GCVS Health and Care team has been working with community groups and charities who support older people across the City. Alongside the feedback coming from our online events, we’ve compiled a detailed response to this important Government consultation, covering:
- Contextual information which affects the strategy;
- Direct feedback from older people who rely on the support of community groups and services in Glasgow;
- The importance of kindness and respect in how all services interact with older people;
- The current challenges facing older people in relation to health, social care and wider wellbeing;
- The need to acknowledge the ongoing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on older people and health and care services;
- Gaps in current services – the importance of face to face contact for older people and the need to urgently recover social care;
- The often life-saving role carried out by charities in the City; the role they play in social connections and challenges linked to funding and sustainability for the voluntary sector;
- The need for more action on the cost of living;
- Solutions and ideas to respond to the issues outlined above.
