Job Description: VAWG Project Assistant (Glasgow)

 

Due to the nature of the duties of this post, it is reserved for women only under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

These vacancies are only available through No One Left Behind LTU programme. All applicants MUST be resident in Glasgow, aged 25 years plus and 12 months or more out of work and not in education or training and who would, without significant investment, struggle to secure/sustain employment and experiencing additional barriers to securing employment e.g. carer, BAME, disability etc.

Hours of work:            30 hours per week

Salary:                         £18,018 per annum pro rata (35hrs fte)

Location:                     Amina Glasgow office or hybrid

Holidays:                     37.5 days per annum – pro rata (inclusive of public holidays)

Pension:                      Mandatory group pension scheme based on employer contributions of 5% plus additional employee contributions

Reporting to:               VAWG Project Coordinator

Contract:                     Fixed term for 6 months from start date

 

Background

Amina MWRC is a national organisation that works with Muslim, Black and minority ethnic women by giving them opportunities to have their voices heard, through different projects. Our service users improve their skills and become more confident in participating within their own, and wider communities.

 

Currently we have two national projects – the helpline/campaigns and development project and the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) project.

 

The Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) project has the following core aspects:

  1. Intergenerational Workshops
  2. Upward: Young Women on the Rise programme
  3. Training to community groups, Amina MWRC staff and volunteers to raise awareness of VAWG issues and legislation.
  4. Campaigns to prevent VAWG such as #YouCanChangeThis.
  5. Workshops on healthy relationships
  6. Building and working in partnership with organisations and the Scottish Government to develop policies, campaigns and materials which reflect intersectionality.
  7. Training service providers on Honour Based Violence and issues specific to BME and Muslim women.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities  

  • Outreach (phone calls / digital meetings) to community groups, classes and gatherings to engage diverse participants from Muslim and BME backgrounds to attend workshops, focus groups and events
  • Organising events and workshops including contacting speakers, confirming venues and other logistics.
  • identify and contact community groups and partners for the delivery of workshops
  • promote and publicise workshops and events
  • Assist in work related to the production of a short creative output exploring gender-based violence
  • Publicise the project out with Amina and network with other relevant organisations and groups.
  • Work with the Amina team to assist with organising local and national events.
  • Initiate and participate in fundraising activities.
  • Participate in staff meetings as required; and participate in regular support and supervision sessions.
  • Take responsibility for your learning and development
  • Maintain databases and undertake any other administrative duties.
  • Maintain accurate records of all work undertaken by the projects.
  • Any other duties in line with this post as directed by your line manager.
