Communications Officer – People Without Labels

Hours: 25 per week (may include some evening and weekend work)

Duration: 6 months

Salary: Meets NMW requirements

Reporting to: Charity Operations Manager

Location: Between charity’s premises at The Space, 257 London Road, G40 1PE and home working

Job brief

We are looking for a Communications Assistant to provide support to various teams and programs. Producing, editing and writing company materials including graphic, audio and video will be an important part of the job.

Overall Communications Officer responsibilities include:

  • Helping implement communications projects and strategies
  • Drafting and editing materials and communications copy
  • Online, offline and Social Media management
  • Collecting data, maintaining databases, providing reports

What will the Communications Officer do?

In this role, you should be an excellent communicator with strong attention to detail. If you also have administrative and social media marketing experience, and are a ‘people person’, we’d like to meet you.

Ultimately, your goal will be to help ensure clear communication of our company’s message across all channels externally and internally



  • Help design and implement communications strategies
  • Provide administrative support to programs and internal teams, prepare regularly scheduled reports
  • Draft and edit communications copy (e.g. press releases, publications, social media posts)
  • Generate, edit, publish and share regular content (original text, images, video or HTML) in line with the charity’s values and objectives that build meaningful connections
  • Optimise the organisations pages and within each platform to increase the visibility of the charity’s social content
  • Moderate all user-generated content in line with the charity’s values and objectives, contribute to enquiries being responded to in a timely and helpful manner, monitor reviews / feedback
  • Assist in maintaining web content and executing social media strategies
  • Liaise with and motivate volunteers and others to enable/encourage their assistance with the duties of this role
  • Update databases and media lists
  • Track projects and media exposure
  • Act as a point of contact for internal and external clients
  • Facilitate effective internal communications and contribute to process and procedure improvements
  • Maintain calendars and appointments
  • Prepare presentations and reports
  • Liaise with staff and external partners to handle requests and queries from senior managers
  • Any other task in line with the role that meet the exigencies of the organisation’s operation



  • Proven experience as a Communications Assistant, Communication Specialist or similar role
  • Minimum of Diploma in Marketing, Communications or a related field is desired, or if equivalent level of knowledge can be easily and satisfactorily demonstrated
  • Understanding of media relations and digital media strategies
  • Proficient in MS Office and working knowledge Google Suite
  • Willingness to learn and train in new software
  • Ability with design software (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign), photo and video-editing software and content management systems is highly desirable
  • Experience in web design
  • Solid editing and researching skills
  • Excellent communication abilities (oral and written) and people skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good organizational skills in busy and fast changing environment
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and prioritise work
  • Motivated, self-starter who can take responsibility for tasks and take to completion
  • Ability (and feasibility) to work from home
  • A flexible approach to work and working hours
  • Experience of video production, live streaming, etc will be advantageous
  • Access to own transport would be advantageous
  • Knowledge and experience of online fundraising platforms and methods advantageous
  • Knowledge and/or experience of Charity organisations,  Third Sector, Social Economy, Governance, Board Meetings desirable or a willingness to learn
