Your passion for development, community and leadership is invaluable as we work towards growing our small, grassroots charity.

Services include peer supported self-help groups for those with clutter and hoarding issues, and advocating for better understanding for those affected by clutter.

What difference will you make?

Our work is grounded in compassion, lived experience, and the belief that recovery is possible when people feel understood, supported, and connected. Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. As an experienced leader on our board, you will play a vital role in helping us create safe, welcoming communities where people can connect, share, and feel understood. Our Clutter Chat community shares lived experience of clutter and hoarding. Members have faced difficult emotions and spiralling clutter, triggered by diverse factors including mental and physical health and mobility, executive function, emotional challenges, bereavement, and family involvement. Structured consultations during this and last year’s Showcase events, attended by 55 stakeholders, gathered views and future ideas. Our current growth plans directly respond to community feedback and organisational needs.

Our small volunteer Board seeks growth-focused, hands-on Trustees who understand Clutter Chat’s vision for a Scotland that values everybody’s contribution and worth.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a range of skills including policy and procedures, finance, and governance structure. Change management experience is especially important as we will see a step-change in our governance and services with the right Trustees on board. Compassion and understanding for those who are challenged by chronic clutter and hoarding are essential qualities.

Lived or family experience of clutter and hoarding issues would be particularly welcome.

Hybrid role – most Board meetings are virtual and with several in-person development sessions over the year in Glasgow.

What will you be doing?

As a trustee wth a range of skills you will support our transition from a small single-tier charity, formed from a grassroots clutter management support group, to a developed SCIO with a strong governance structure and enhanced service portfolio. This year we will continue our work to grow our capacity, broaden our reach, embed appropriate policies and procedures, enhance our volunteer opportunities, build sustainable income, and refresh our services and partnerships. We are at the start of a step-change in how our small charity functions and grows. There is need to build strong, foundations in our organisational structures and processes, policies and resources, while strengthening our recovery-focused and volunteer-led services.
