Trustee Treasurer (Volunteer Trustee)
Support women. Support older people. Make a difference.
Common Thread Vision (CTV) is a Glasgow-based charity supporting older adults in Pollokshields – particularly women – to reduce loneliness and social isolation, maintain independence, and improve their health and wellbeing.
We are looking for a Trustee Treasurer to join our friendly Board of Trustees and help oversee the charity’s finances.
The Role
As Treasurer, you will work with the Chair, fellow Trustees and our accountant to help ensure the charity’s finances are well managed and financially sustainable.
This is a flexible volunteering role, and you will be able to work from home at your own pace, with meetings and communication arranged as needed.
The role mainly involves practical financial administration and basic bookkeeping.
This includes:
- Keeping Excel/Google Sheets financial records up to date.
- Recording income, expenditure, payments and expenses.
- Organising receipts and uploading them to Google Drive.
- Maintaining accurate records for both restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Reviewing financial information and highlighting any concerns.
- Helping prepare and monitor the annual budget.
- Presenting clear financial updates at Board meetings.
- Liaising with the accountant regarding the annual accounts and Independent Examination.
- Supporting funding applications by providing financial information where required.
- Helping the Board make informed financial decisions.
- Preparing a Treasurer’s report for the Annual General Meeting (AGM).
- Providing financial information required for annual reporting to OSCR.
We’re Looking for Someone Who Is:
- Organised and comfortable working with numbers.
- A good communicator who enjoys working as part of a team.
- Supportive of women, older people and community wellbeing.
- Committed to helping a local charity grow and thrive.
Essential:
- Experience of maintaining financial records and bookkeeping.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (or similar spreadsheet software) and confidence in maintaining financial spreadsheets and records.
- Ability to prepare and maintain income and expenditure records, budgets and simple financial reports.
Desirable:
- Experience of using Xero accounting software.
- A finance, bookkeeping or accountancy qualification (or currently working towards one) would be an advantage, but is not essential.
- Previous experience as a Treasurer or Trustee would be welcomed but is not essential, as support and induction will be provided.
Trustee Responsibilities
The Treasurer is also a Trustee and would attend approximately 8 Board meetings each year, with a mixture of in-person and online meetings.
The Treasurer would present clear financial updates to the Board, help monitor the annual budget, review income and expenditure with the Chair (and Trustees), and liaise with the accountant regarding the annual accounts and Independent Examination.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to make a real difference within your local community while gaining valuable experience in charity governance and strategic decision-making.
If you’re based in Pollokshields or the surrounding areas, we’d love to hear from you.
We understand that some individuals may have barriers to volunteering, such as caring responsibilities. If this applies to you, please let us know – we’d be happy to discuss how we can support your involvement.
