Recruiting new Chair to Board of Directors

Recruitment Ad – Chair

Are you interested in becoming involved with a local charity in the Govan area which provides crucial support and advice to refugees and asylum seekers?

Govan Community Project is a community based organisation who provide a diverse range of support to meet the needs of asylum seekers and refugees, primarily to the diverse community of Greater Govan but with some support offered to individuals resident in the wider Glasgow area.  Our purpose is to achieve social justice by building a community based on equality, mutual respect, support and integration.

We provide direct services such as weekly drop-ins, advice, information and advocacy, organising cultural events, a community flat, English classes, destitution food project, hate-crime reporting and an interpreting service. In addition we engage with other local public, voluntary and community organisations to ensure the voices of our diverse community are heard and represented in planning, policy and service provision at both local and national level, promoting equal rights and opportunities and cross cultural understandings, and we work within our local community to build strong links within and between communities.

We are looking to recruit a new Chair to join our Board of Trustees.  The role of Chair is important, carrying legal and financial responsibilities, which will require time and commitment. You will receive a thorough induction and be provided with ongoing training and support.   As a trustee you will be using your personal skills, experiences and knowledge to give back to the community improving the lives of vulnerable individuals and families who are facing many challenges and barriers including poverty, isolation, destitution and discrimination.

Our ideal candidate will be able to commit a minimum of one day per month to the charity (with flexibility over day/evening commitments) and have the ability to think and plan strategically with the skills to motivate and support fellow Trustees.  Ideally you will have experience/skills in leadership, preferably with some knowledge/experience of the not for profit sector or asylum sector.

Training and Support will be offered by the outgoing Chair, fellow trustees and the Head of Charity.
