Early Years Scotland Family Visitor Centre at HMP Low Moss, East Dunbartonshire

 

We are looking for a highly motivated and supportive Children & Families Worker for the Early Years Scotland (EYS) Family Visitor Centre at HMP Low Moss.

Families who are affected by imprisonment can face a range of emotional, financial and practical difficulties and can find it challenging to find the information and support they need.  The EYS Family Visitor Centre aims to meet these needs and improve the visit experience for prisoners’ families and friends in a friendly and relaxed environment helping to reduce stress, build confidence and empower families to improve their control of their individual circumstances.

The EYS Family Visitor Centre aims to achieve positive outcomes by fulfilling three core functions:

  • improving the experience of visiting a family member or loved one in prison
  • allowing families to access independent and impartial advice, information and support appropriate to their needs
  • championing families’ needs within the prison system

The Children & Families Worker will have experience working with children aged 5 years – teenagers. They will connect positively with children and families offering information, advice, and one-to-one support for children. They will be a critical part of an enthusiastic, effective team working alongside the Centre Co-ordinator, Family Support Worker and Early Years Practitioner to ensure a supportive and positive environment for the visitors.

 

Post Details (all pay and allowances are pro-rata and subject to continuing funding) 

  • Part time: 17.5 hours per week over 52 weeks per annum (to include weekends and evenings) as follows:
Monday 2pm   – 7.30pm
Tuesday 2pm   – 7.30pm
Friday 3.30pm   – 7.30pm
Saturday 1pm   – 4.30pm

These hours are subject to change depending on changes to prison visits in the future. 

  • Pro-rata salary: £10,437 per annum (£20,875 FTE). £11.47 per hour. Point 19 on the scale 19-22.
  • 20 days annual leave in the first year rising to 30 days thereafter
  • 12 public holidays per annum

Applicants must be eligible to register as a Practitioner with SSSC (e.g., HNC Early Education & Childcare or Qualified to SCQF Level 7, relevant qualifications will be considered) with relevant experience for the role. Membership of the PVG Scheme is required.

This post is funded by the Scottish Government and is a fixed term contract to January 2023, subject to continued funding.
