Mental Health Awareness Month
Posted: 4th May 2026
During Mental Health Awareness Month we thought it may be helpful to share some ideas as a slide show which you can watch yourself or share with others, or use to prompt conversations around mental health. Often people think there are no or not enough services and supports and while yes, we know there could be improvements, it also matters we recognise and appreciate what is already here and find ways to build on that.
Finding ways to look after our mental health matters, as life at times can be challenging, but just like when we look after our bodies we may recover sooner if we become unwell, so too with our minds, when we look after our mental health it does not mean at times we will not experience times when we find ourselves anxious, or with low mood, but when we look after our mental health we can bounce back sooner, or perhaps not become so unwell. This does not mean at times we do not need to see a professional, it is simply to remind us not to take our mental health for granted and to make a conscious effort to look after our wellbeing.
It is amazing the wider environmental issues which can impact on our mental health e.g. litter. We are currently exploring the Glaswegian Way to Wellbeing. Follow the link below for the slides mentioned and also our first booklet looking at issues of litter and mental health. It is great there are so many committed citizens in Glasgow who get involved in community litter picks, it would be great if people did not litter and those energies could be used for other community activities and gatherings. It is worth thinking about the wider issues which impact on mental health this month too, like being kind to each other.
Thanks for reading, remember you matter
