About Wellbeing Scotland

Wellbeing Scotland provides trauma-informed, specialist support for children and adults affected
by child abuse, often referred to as “survivors”. Through emotional support, counselling and
group work we help them build safety, understanding and connection. Our work is grounded in
evidence, delivered with compassion and focused on empowering people to move forward with
renewed hope.

Child abuse is defined as physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse or neglect experienced
under the age of 18. It is often spoken about as something that occurs in childhood, without
acknowledging or understanding the negative effect it can continue to have throughout a person’s
life. Research shows that people who experienced child abuse are at higher risk of depression,
anxiety, addiction and difficulties with relationships throughout their lives. These are common
responses to trauma, yet many people do not recognise them as such. In our experience many
people do not realise that some of the struggles they face in life are a direct result of abuse that
happened during childhood. When they finally get the help they need, it can be life-changing.
We recognise the lasting impact that child abuse can have on wellbeing, and offer a range of
fully-funded services delivered by a caring team of experienced practitioners. We have a
specialism in supporting adults who experienced child abuse in the care system, including help
with retrieving historical records for applicants to Scotland’s Redress Scheme

Our vision

Our vision is that people who have been affected by child abuse are seen, heard and empowered
within a safe, inclusive and supportive space.
