Care Governance Board Director (Non-Executive Director)

Antonine Court Limited is seeking an experienced health and social care professional to join our Board of Directors. This role provides independent strategic oversight, constructive challenges and assurance in relation to the quality, safety and regulatory governance of our services.

Position: Care Governance Board Director (Non-Executive role)

Location: 30 Dunkenny Rd, Glasgow G15 8LH

Renumeration: Voluntary

The role is strategic and non-operational. The Board Director will support the wider Board to understand whether appropriate systems are in place to deliver safe, effective, person-centred care and support, while holding senior management to account for quality and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional care expertise and advice to the Board.
  • Review key quality and governance information presented to the Board.
  • Provide appropriate scrutiny and constructive challenges around the quality and safety of services.
  • Monitor themes and trends relating to incidents, accidents, complaints, compliments, safeguarding and other quality indicators.
  • Seek assurance that Care Inspectorate requirements, improvement actions and regulatory responsibilities are being appropriately managed.
  • Review evidence relating to service user outcomes, experience and involvement.
  • Seek assurance around workforce matters including training, competency, supervision and staff development.
  • Monitor progress against agreed quality improvement plans and governance actions.
  • Support a positive culture of learning, openness and continuous improvement.
  • Escalate significant areas of concern to the Board where appropriate.
  • Contribute to Board discussions and decisions from a care quality and governance perspective.

Boundaries of the Role

This is a Board governance role and not an operational management position. The Board Director will not be responsible for the day-to-day management of staff or services. Operational responsibility remains with the management team.

The role is to seek assurance, scrutinise evidence, identify risk and provide constructive challenges, rather than undertake operational duties on behalf of management.

Person Specification

  • Significant professional experience in health, social care or a related regulatory environment.
  • Sound knowledge of quality assurance, risk management and person-centered practice.
  • Understanding of the Scottish social care regulatory environment and Care Inspectorate standards.
  • Ability to interpret quality information, identify trends and focus on outcomes for people.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret care quality data and focus on service user outcomes.
  • Professional integrity, discretion, and the confidence to challenge constructively at the board level.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Active registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., SSSC, NMC, HCPC).
  • Prior experience as a Non-Executive Director, Trustee, or Committee Member.

Commitment

  • Meetings: Approximately 1 Board meeting per month (held in-person / hybrid).
  • Preparation: 1–2 hours per month for reading and reviewing governance packs prior to meetings.
  • Occasional Ad-Hoc: Rare involvement may be requested if an urgent regulatory or quality concern requires immediate oversight.

Accountability and Aim

The Board Director is accountable collectively with fellow Board members for effective governance and will work collaboratively with the Chair, other Board members and the senior management team. Your primary aim is to ensure Antonine Court remains safe, well-governed, compliant, and focused on delivering high-quality outcomes for the people we support.
