Gathering Ground is a food-led community café & event space in Glasgow. We use food as a platform to create change within our local community, build connections & inspire people to engage with good food.

We are situated in a beautiful C-Listed former Lock Keeper House (Old Basin House) and have been working hard to transform the space into a hub for the local community.

We have an opportunity for a new team member to join us as a Part Time Supervisor within our social enterprise café.

This is an opportunity to join a small, supportive and friendly team where you will get to engage with the local community and serve great food & coffee.


Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Cafe Supervisor (20 Hours per week + Potential Overtime) to join the existing cafe team.

You will lead our team on-shift and support our Operations Manager with the day to day operations of the cafe. 

You should be a strong communicator, detail-oriented and display excellence in hospitality. Creating an inviting atmosphere for our customers and team.

You should like a community focused environment and be excited to support and be involved in the social purpose of our organisation. 

The shift times will be a mix of weekend & week day shifts between 8.30-5PM. You will be working 3-4 days per week. There will also be the opportunity for additional overtime for private & special events.

We are looking for someone to start from w/b 5th February 2023



  • Take responsibility to ensure smooth running of the cafe during working shifts and to conduct this in line with our expectations
  • Use initiative to solve any problems.
  • Ensuring excellent customer service is provided across the team. 
  • To assist in the training and development of new staff, looking after staff and contributing to a positive work environment.
  • To assist in ensuring stock levels are maintained and communicated to management
  • Ordering stock relevant to the level of business
  • To assist in the planning and execution of any private events 
  • Maintain the highest standards of hygiene and cleanliness within the cafe and ensure guidelines are adhered to
  • To be responsible for communicating and wider organisational events or initiative and signposting where necessary 
  • To proactively resolve any customer complaints in an efficient, professional, and satisfactory manner to ensure a positive outcome and secure future business, escalating any serious issues to the Operations Manager
  • To ensure that each day’s sales are correctly and accurately reconciled in line with the POS report & card terminal
  • Making Coffees, Hot Drinks & Food Prep (providing training to or guidance to other staff if necessary)
  • Closing & Opening the Cafe
  • Other duties to support cafe team/ operation & just pitching in where needed

  • Good knowledge of coffee and the ability to train others

  • Driving Licence with access to a car
  • Min 2 Years Supervisory Experience
  • Min 2 Years Food Preparation & Handling
  • Min 2 Years Barista Experience
  • Be available to start work w/b 5th Feb
