Asthma Charity Recognised by University of Aberdeen

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation (AAF), Scotland’s only dedicated asthma charity, is proud to announce that it has been awarded certificate of participation from the University of Aberdeen. This recognition is a testament to Asthma and Allergy Foundation’s unwavering commitment to supporting the practical experience of second-year medical students through the facilitation of placements and work experience opportunities.

The certificate, presented by the University of Aberdeen’s Medical Department, acknowledges the invaluable efforts of the organisation in assisting year two medical students in gaining essential experience. Vicki McGrain Rae, the Head of Services and Health Promotion at Asthma and Allergy Foundation, played a pivotal role in this success by taking the students to schools, where they actively participated in the delivery of informative asthma workshops. The hands-on experience provided during these workshops proved to be immensely valuable for the students, enhancing their knowledge and skills in asthma care.

In addition to the school-based workshops, Stephen Nakote, the Community Engagement Officer at the organisation, provided support and mentorship to the students. He guided them in delivering health promotion activities and engaging with the Aberdeen community. This collaborative effort not only benefited the aspiring medical professionals but also had a positive impact on the local community’s asthma awareness and education.

The Chief Executive Officer of the asthma charity, Martina Chukwuma-Ezike commented, “We are delighted to receive this recognition from the University of Aberdeen. Our partnership with the university has been instrumental in empowering these talented medical students with practical experience, equipping them with the skills necessary to make a significant impact in their future careers. At Asthma and Allergy Foundation, we are dedicated to supporting young people and fostering their growth, and this collaboration exemplifies our commitment.”

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to making a difference in the lives of people affected by asthma. By providing opportunities for young people to gain work-ready skills and hands-on experience, AAF continues to pave the way for a future generation of healthcare professionals who are adept in supporting asthma patients.
