Common Wheel is a 25-year-old mental health charity based in Glasgow. We provide meaningful activity for people with mental illness and dementia.
Our participatory weekly workshops take place in wards at Gartnavel Royal Hospital, two purpose-built cycle workshops in Maryhill and Bridgeton, our base at Gartnavel Royal Hospital, at the Climbing Centre in Maryhill, at The Nook in Glasgow and
other community venues.
We work with over 400 participants per year, providing group activities in music, art, bike building, gardening and climbing and a huge variety of Drop-in Sessions offering activities as diverse as Tai Chi and Introductory Gaelic. We also support volunteer opportunities across the organisation.
Our aims are to improve mental wellbeing, reduce isolation, increase skills and challenge stigma. We are a values-based organisation with a person-centred approach.
We are looking for someone who is happy to roll their sleeves up and deliver some of the activity but can also work with others to help shape and timetable a varied programme of high-quality sessions.
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator who can represent Common Wheel positively at all times and will be encouraged to identify new opportunities, develop partnerships and contribute ideas that help our programme grow and evolve.
Responsibilities
• Consult with staff, participants and volunteers to identify suitable activities
• Organise and timetable music delivery in Hospital Wards
• Organise and timetable activities for Dementia patients and external agencies
• Organise and timetable drop-in sessions
• Liaise with like-minded organisations to identify joint working and/or delivery opportunities
• Contract freelance practitioners as required
• Purchase materials as per budget
• Champion Common Wheel’s work, helping to increase participation and strengthen community connections
• Manage/timetable Common Wheel activities
• Keep accurate records
• Contribute to reports for funders
• Support volunteers
• Assist/lead with delivery as required
• Evaluate the impact of the programme
• Report to the Charity Manager
Desired Qualities/ Experience
Essential
– Experience working in outcome-focused, people-led community project(s)
– Knowledge of designing, delivering and evaluating community projects
– Experience of recording, monitoring and evaluating group sessions
– Be highly organised, in order to keep accurate records and provide relevant data for funder reporting
– Ability to manage and monitor budgets
– Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise own workload with minimal supervision
– Confidence in the use of Microsoft office packages – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams
– An inclusive, non-judgmental, motivational approach
Desirable
• Interest in mental health
• Experience of working with and supporting volunteers
• Skillset including music or arts

Hours: 21 hours per week
Salary: £26,520 per annum pro-rata
Location Campbell House, Gartnavel Royal Hospital Glasgow.
