16th December 2025
Launched on the TSI Learning Portal

Author: Fiona Davies, People & Safety Services Manager
A new Health and Safety training course is the latest addition to the TSI Learning portal and is available to community groups, voluntary organisations, and social enterprises across Scotland.
The TSI Learning portal is a key resource for board members, trustees, committee members, staff and volunteers. This new course helps organisations understand their duties, improve good practice, and create safer, more effective work environments. It’s particularly valuable for those with legal responsibilities for health and safety compliance.
Health & Safety – Leading by Example
This course explores the critical role leaders play in shaping an organisation’s health and safety culture and how effective leadership can improve safety outcomes for staff, volunteers and service users.

A strong health and safety culture is not just about policies and procedures. Research consistently shows that positive leadership directly correlates with safer, more productive workplaces, reduced incidents, and improved organisational resilience.
‘Leading by Example’ complements our Overview of Workplace Health, Safety and Welfare Regulations, already available on the portal.
What the Course Covers
The course provides practical, accessible guidance on:
- How leaders set the tone for health and safety culture
- The legal duties and responsibilities of organisational leaders
- Potential legal and organisational consequences of failing to meet standards
- The role of leadership in managing and directing health and safety
- Effective communication methods and how to maximise their impact
- Fostering a positive health and safety culture aligned with organisational goals
This makes the course particularly relevant for trustees, board members, managers and anyone with decision-making responsibility within a third sector organisation.
