Update on Paid Work Placements

GCVS is a proud partner in the Paid Work Placements programme, supporting Glasgow-based organisations to help people with barriers to employment.

Building valuable skills and experiences

This month, the final placement positions will be filled, bringing the total number of opportunities the programme has provided to 89. The organisations that have hosted placements offered a diverse array of roles, spanning administration, marketing, childcare, construction, finance, social media and more. This wide spectrum of opportunities demonstrates the programmes commitment to inclusivity and its potential to cater to a variety of interests and skills.

Throughout the placement, participants receive support from their PWP Key Workers who meet with them regularly. This to chat about how the placement is going, address any issues or concerns, and provide practical advice and support to help participants achieve their employment goals.

The programme first launched in August 2023, with placements lasting a maximum of 26 weeks. So far, in addition to the valuable skills and experience gained by participants, 7 participants have now moved into employment. Four of the participants have continued with the organisation that provided the placement, and this has been made possible by the employer accessing financial support from Glasgow Guarantee.

“This work placement has truly changed my working career as I have been able to stick to this job as I absolutely love being part of the team prior to securing this work placement, I couldn’t keep a job, and my employment history was extremely erratic. This opportunity gave me some consistency and a true lifeline as I was just in and out of the doctors previously – as of now I’m feeling so much better both mentally and physically.”

Many thanks to Glasgow Chamber of Commerce for sharing some examples of the valuable experience gained by participants in these case studies on their website.
