Help to Shape Health and Social Care Events

Our Health and Social Care team want to hear from you

Across many of our health and care events over the last few years, our sector has shared its experiences and challenges in the current social care system.

We’ve identified the consistent issues that emerge – bureaucracy, who holds the ‘power’ when people ask for assistance, care charging, commissioning of services, and lack of flexibility in self-directed support. There is much more that we could add to that here.

We’ve examined the Feeley Review and talked with Ministers about the concept of a National Care Service. More recently, we looked at how we better fund social care and more extensive work, which looks at why social care is essential and how we might create a kinder, fairer and more universal service.

How can we help next?

We want to ensure that we’re organising events that help you in your role and provide a space to share your work, meet others from across our sector, and influence local and national policy and services.

If your organisation works to support the health, well-being and social connections of Glaswegians, please do get in touch and tell us what kind of events you want to see in future:

  • Would you like to see more training that supports your well-being and that of your organisation?
  • Do you want to hear more from decision-makers and politicians?
  • Would you value hearing from key influencers and their work in health and care?
  • Is it valuable for you to have the opportunity to share your work and connect with others in our sector?

We often host partnership events with charities and community groups to focus on particular issues, e.g. older people and COVID. So get in touch if you’d like to do a session with us or have any ideas for future training, information or other events. And do let us know what we can do better and what events you’ve enjoyed or found helpful.

GCVS has also set up a voluntary sector Health and Social Care network, which is open to charities, community groups and other third-sector organisations interested in or providingservices linked to health, well-being and social care. Join here and learn about special events and opportunities to network with similar organisations.
