Glasgow Third Sector Family Support Report Launch
16th January 2023
Throughout July – September 2022, the Children’s Services Team at GCVS carried out a survey exercise to map the city’s family support landscape. Co-designed with members of the Glasgow Citywide Forum’s Family Support subgroup, and with input from the Glasgow City Health and Social Care Partnership, we produced a survey to gather key data. The exercise mirrored a similar task carried out in 2018 and aimed to identify the extent of existing Third Sector Family Support Services, as well as key gaps in current provision.
Survey questions covered the following themes:
- Geographical area of service delivery
- Funding sources
- Service type and operation training and methodology
- Referral processes
- Staff and practitioner’s views: exploring their key concerns facing families and the family support sector as a whole
Research also intended to complement service design work by the Glasgow Promise Partnership. The ongoing project, embedded within GCVS, aims to design a new family support service, through co-production and co-design with children, young people and families.
Based on the survey data, and following further consultation with respondents and partners, a series of recommendations were produced, focussing on funding: collaborative working, increased resources, specialist support and early intervention. We have also produced a Family Support Map showing visually where family support organisations are located in the city. This must be read with care as some organisations only work in their local area, while others work across the city and beyond.
