Glasgow Still Helps!

An update on work to support people affected by COVID 19 and a call for help

Are you supporting people in your community with needs arising from Covid 19?

Are you able to offer this support to more people? If not, would you be able to?

During the lockdown period in early summer this year, Glasgow’s third sector stepped up like never before.  As part of GCVS’s contribution we created the Glasgow Helps website, where members of the public or their advocates could search for available services from the third sector.

We are now in a situation where a new set of circumstances and needs have emerged:

  • People are being asked to quarantine or self-isolate, often at short notice, and this is creating a new set of issues, particularly where households lose income as a result. This includes extreme and sudden food poverty.
  • People are unable to use or access online services to get support and information about Covid, or to order food for themselves. Digital exclusion remains an issue.
  • People in some groups remain significantly isolated and under stress as they wait for support services to restart.

We are asking Glasgow’s third sector to do three things:

  1. Could you consider reshaping – or have you already reshaped , your service delivery model to provide a service to households asked to self-isolate or facing ongoing barriers as a result of Covid restrictions?
  2. Can you include up to date details of the services you provide on Glasgow Helps?  Please do check our website – add a new listing if your organisation is not there.  Over 400 organisations are currently registered and some control and update their own records.
  3. Get in touch if you would like to be part of a coalition of organisations delivering emergency support – GCVS is on the search for new and more partners able to provide emergency support such as immediate food deliveries or other emergency support for households self-isolating.
