GCVS Blog – World Day of Social Justice

“With exclusion and inequality on the rise, we must step up efforts to ensure that all people, without discrimination, are able to access opportunities to improve their lives and those of others.”

Former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

The 20th of February marks World Day of Social Justice, a day initiated by the UN and observed by Member States to raise awareness of the injustices humanity continues to endure. We live in a time where people still face barriers on a daily basis due to factors like their gender, race or disability, and we need to do more as a society to break these barriers down.

I’m running two events to acknowledge World Day of Social Justice on the 20th of February. The first, ‘What is Social Justice?’ will cover the basics of Social Justice, as well as how what we do within each of our organisations plays a part in the global movement towards achieving a Socially Just world.

In the second event, ‘Intro to UN Sustainable Development Goals’,  I’ll explore what the UN Sustainability Development Goals are, plus what they actually mean for local Third Sector organisations in Glasgow.
