GCVS Blog – An update from Helen Macneil, our CEO

It’s at this time of year I find myself running from pillar to post, engaging with our public sector partners to try to find ways of not just protecting funding & investment for our third sector members & but making the case for increased investment.

In short it’s a challenging time and is made even less enjoyable by announcements in the last week that will see £3.3m cut from Mental Health Services and early warning of third sector funding cuts through Health & Social Care budgets. This is something that we’ll be working on in the weeks and months ahead, challenging these decisions through our involvement on the Integrated Joint Board and working with our members to develop a Manifesto for Change that will make these, seemingly arbitrary decisions, a thing of the past.

Funding continues to be the most pressing issue for the sector in Glasgow and this was apparent in the huge interest in our Aspiring Communities Fund Events, held on 16 February, where more than 200 of our members, and those of our partner Glasgow & West of Scotland Housing Association, came together to hear about the £18.9m fund from the Scottish Government Regeneration Team.

Glasgow City Council approved the city’s budget for 2017/18 and although savings of £53m have been made it would appear that funding for Integrated Grants Funded projects will be protected, a small chink of light in an otherwise difficult week.
