Yaldi Community Lottery Celebrates Winning Causes

Yaldi Community Lottery

Yaldi – Glasgow’s Community Lottery was first launched in 2020 with the sole aim of helping support local good causes with much-needed, additional fundraising. Since then, more than 100 voluntary organisations and community groups in the city have joined the site and are listed for people to support through ticket sales. Lottery users can play for just £1 each week and either support their favourite cause, or chose the Glasgow Helps Community fund which divides its earnings between multiple community-led organisations. And the best bit? Players are in with the chance to win up to £25,000!

Yaldi’s Latest Big Winner Supports the Halliday Foundation

Organisations and groups of all sizes are beginning to reap the rewards of being involved with the lottery. We spoke to The Halliday Foundation, a GCVS member, who have been registered on the site since it first began. One Halliday supporter recently scooped a £2,000 prize so we spoke to Chris Halliday, Director of Operations about how their experience of the Community Lottery so far:

“Yaldi lottery has been an amazing creation from GCVS which has allowed us to raise funds for our services as well as giving people the chance to win some cash! It’s amazing! We have been using the funds towards our kettle pack services which we provide to those living in hostels. These are foods which can be made with a kettle as well as snacks, crisps, juice and toiletries, to try and prevent the begging in Glasgow and allowing people access to food and toiletries.

Each pack costs around £6.90 and these are provided on a weekly basis to 3 different hostels across Glasgow, we would love to extend this into many more hostels and services.”

Alzheimer’s Scotland is fundraising with Glasgow communities

Gail Dolan, Stakeholder Engagement Lead at Alzheimer’s Scotland, explains why the Community Lottery was added to their fundraising portfolio.

“We joined the lottery as all our dementia resource centres are based within the local communities across Scotland. We also wanted to offer other fun ways for people to support us who maybe can’t take part in a challenge event or leave the house. Our community lotteries are not only helping our charity, they are helping others. The funds from the lottery allow us to reach more people living in Scotland with dementia to ensure nobody faces dementia alone. It lets us see the impact of community fundraising and connecting with people who need our support.”
