Community Calling Project- mobile phones available

GCVS are working together with Glasgow Life and Hubbub’s Community Calling Project to help distribute phones to those in the community that are digitally excluded.

At the start of lockdown, Hubbub, together with O2, trialled a campaign that re-homed 538 smartphones with vulnerable, and otherwise digitally excluded, owners. Following the London expansion, they are taking Community Calling to five locations nationwide: Manchester; Bristol; Leeds; South Wales and Glasgow with the aim of supporting a total of 10,000 digitally excluded households. Along with the phone, each beneficiary will receive 12 months of free credit provided by O2 (6GB data per month and unlimited calls and texts).

GCVS hope to receive 1,500 mobile phones to distribute to organisations that are supporting people who are digitally excluded in deprived areas of the city. Each organisation can apply for between 10-100 phones to give to people in their community who they think will benefit from this.

Please download the Community Calling Welcome Pack at the bottom of the page to find out more details about how the project works, what to expect and what is expected of participants. Please read these fully before applying.

If you’d like to be part of the project and apply for the devices, please fill in this form by Friday 28th May.

We will then allocate the devices we have depending on availability and demand, and will be in touch with you with further details and to arrange collection from the Albany Centre.

We will need 3-4 beneficiaries that have particularly special stories that will be willing to provide testimonials/case studies. These individuals must be willing to speak to the media, and have their photo taken. Please indicate on the form if you know someone who might be willing to do this.
