Marketing Communications Opportunity Reopens

Could you benefit from free support with your marketing communications planning?

We are pleased to partner with the University of Glasgow Adam Smith Business School for a third year to offer this opportunity to up to 6 voluntary sector organisations.

Would you benefit from a Marketing Communications plan?

  • Do you have a service or idea you need to consider how to promote?
  • Are you open to hearing new and creative ideas?
  • Could you or your team draft a brief of your requirements for a group of students to take forward?

First launched in 2022, the opportunity is open again for organisations to apply for support with their marketing communications. The University of Glasgow will work with up to 6 selected applicants to define a ‘client brief’ for a group of this year’s marketing students.

What’s involved?

The assigned students will create and develop a marketing communications plan based on your requirements from September to December. They will then present their recommendations in the New Year during a presentation, which you can take forward as you wish. There is also potential for funding to support student placements to take forward the next steps of the project.

Please note that this is not a student placement opportunity. Rather, students will create and design a strategic plan based on a client brief. They will work with you to establish your needs and goals and make recommendations that you can choose to pursue.

The students participating in this project are 3rd and 4th year Marketing Communications (MA Management) undergraduates. They will work in groups and are guided by the course coordinator and tutors, who provide regular feedback to enhance their final submission. Rest assured, you are not expected to host or manage the students. Our goal is to assist voluntary sector organizations in developing and promoting their services, while also giving future marketing graduates practical experience and a deeper understanding of the third sector.

  • Applications are welcome until is 31 May 2024 – download the application form here.
  • June – The University reviews applications and organisations are informed if they have been successfully chosen.
  • September/October – Organisations meet with the students to discuss the brief.
  • December – Students complete and submit their findings.
  • January – Students present their final work to organisations to take forward.

Hear from last year’s programme participants

“I thought the presentations went well. The brief was really thoroughly executed and I think you have delivered a far-reaching strategy which is also accessible for a small business with a small budget.

I have worked with marketing agencies in the past where they have not heeded the brief, they have ignored budgets and resources (such as staffing levels) and simply delivered a marketing strategy which is wonderful and shiny and exciting but which is not at all suited to the business, which means it is a huge waste of time to the business. So for me the strongest thing is that you have taken into account the business and my capacity and you have delivered me something which is possible for me to execute.

These slides are really helpful particularly as they are something I can begin to put into action now, but which I can also build on over the next year and this time next year will be even more valuable as I will be further down the road. I have been impressed with the way you all approached and delivered the project.”

It was a pleasure to hear the students perspectives and presentations…  I noted down some really valuable suggestions to take back, so it was very much a great experience.

Thanks so much for having me – I am genuinely so impressed by the talent of the students! Such a bright bunch!
