Co-Designing Glasgow’s All Age Childcare: Resources

In January, we launched Co-Designing Glasgow’s All Age Childcare, a targeted, community-based approach to identify and inform what services priority families need to thrive all year round, including during school holidays.
We are working in partnership with Glasgow City Council, and with a cohort of third, public and private sector organisations.
The overall aim is toward a future all age childcare system that incorporates childcare, activities and food provision.
We define childcare here in the broadest sense including holiday activity programmes, childminding, family centre offerings, nurseries, after-school clubs, sports clubs and activities for children and young people.
This work is targeted in three areas called Early Adopter Communities (EAC) – Southside Central, East Centre and Drumchapel/Anniesland.
We are using the principles of Scottish Approach to Service Design, which means we have taken time to fully understand the problem before designing solutions.
For each EAC, we’ve collated two pieces of research with key stakeholders, a consultation with families and service mapping with childcare providers across the sectors.
This research will form the basis for next stage of the project.

For the next stage, we have awarded grants to third sector organisations in each of the EACs to deliver an accessible and meaningful co-design process with families and providers.
The organisations are 3D Drumchapel (Drumchapel/Anniesland), Early Years Scotland (East Centre), and Crossreach (Southside Central).
This project will run until January 2025.
