An update on SCIOs and remote meetings

Phil Broadley, Capacity Building, GCVSThis update comes from Glasgow CVS Capacity Building Officer Phil Broadley:

Extended time period allowing SCIOs to hold remote meetings

The continuing restrictions necessitated by COVID-19 mean that a SCIO’s ability to hold general or members’ meetings in person (where this is specified in the constitution) is limited. For this reason, the Scottish Government introduced legislation allowing SCIOs to use remote methods, such as video conference or phone calls to hold meetings with their members, if they need to.

The time period for this arrangement originally ran until 30 December 2020. Under a recent amendment to the legislation however, this arrangement is now extended for a final 3 months to 30 March 2021.

Some SCIOs have already altered their Constitutions to allow remote meetings to take place. For those SCIOs that have still to do this, we strongly recommend that they use this extended time period to “future proof” their Constitutions by making the necessary alterations to allow remote meetings to take place where necessary.

For SCIOs in Glasgow, guidance and support on how to do this can be obtained from GCVS. Contact the Sector Development Team on 0141 332 2444.
