Albany Sold but Home to GCVS Until Summer 2025

The latest news, plus what’s next?

GCVS has agreed to sell the Albany to a local community organisation. While the sale is confirmed, it will be ‘business as usual’ for the GCVS premises until July 2025. We plan to continue using the building until then, and organisations are welcome, as usual, to hold their events or book meeting space.

Around this time last year, we shared the news that our board had agreed to look at the sale of the Albany building. We set out our reasons for that decision here in this blog. It has also been helpful to share our intentions with the sector early so that interested community organisations could develop plans if they were interested in buying it.

The GCVS Board has been clear about its legal responsibility to look after the organisation’s assets and get a fair price for the building. They also strongly believe in our organisation’s purpose of strengthening the sector and communities. We’re delighted that the sale agreed meets both of those requirements. The Albany, which was initially built as a school 125 years ago, has been our residence for more than 16 years, so we’re pleased it will go on to serve the needs of a new community.
