Creating a Climate Action Plan

“Victoria Park Community Trust has benefitted from engaging with GCVS in connection with developing an Environmental Plan and related funding plans. Before finalising the latter, we had a most useful conversation with June Burgess, who provided very helpful funding advice. We also review the Funding Alerts and News bulletin published each week by GCVS.“
Victoria Park Community Trust is made up of member groups who hold a vested interest in Glasgow’s historic Victoria Park. The Trust includes all five local Community Councils; Friends of Victoria Park, The Fossil Grove Trust, Glasgow Eco Trust, The Butterfly Conservation Trust, Whiteinch and Scotstoun Housing Association and Parkrun. Their partnership shares a vision to ensure the Park’s long-term future and meet the area’s social, health, educational and environmental needs.
Once established with their development strategy, a funding plan and Environmental Policy were the next steps. GCVS was delighted to be able to help tackle and support members of the Trust in these areas. We arranged a funding surgery where the team could meet an advisor to discuss fundraising and income generation plans. We’re passionate about supporting organisations with their long-term fundraising strategy, helping to equip them with the tools to be sustainable. Our Funding Advice Officer, was then able to keep in touch and provide recommendations and feedback on draft proposals.
Getting Started with a Policy and Plan
Trust member Joyce joined our ‘Creating an Environmental Policy and Plan’ – session with the team.
Our Climate Coordinators can help guide groups through their commitment to climate action, looking at short and long-term action plans. Of course, that includes discussing engagement with their community and how to review impact, making adjustments along the way.
It’s fantastic to see the Trust’s development so far, and we look forward to continuing our support with them.

Trust Member, Joyce, told us:
“Firstly, I wanted to express my gratitude for your invaluable support with our funding applications… Your insights were immensely helpful in refining our submissions.
“The key benefit of doing the Environmental Plan was undertaking the process itself. It informed aspects of an ambitious activities plan with the accompanying funding strategy. Implementing these has transformed the Trust. We have received over £15k in funding, have an active team of volunteers who have devoted their time to the equivalent of about £60k per year and worked with an MSc student who provided us with a business case for a café in the park.”
